Hitchcock. Yesterday afternoon at 1:40, Mrs. Lucy E. Hitchcock, wife of R.G. Hitchcock, passed away at the home of Mr. and Mrs. C.A. Hitchcock, having made her home with her son and daughter-in-law since last April. The end came very peacefully. She had been confined to her bed since Thanksgiving due to a general breaking down from old age, and during that time she had been able to sit up in bed but twice. Mrs. C.A. Hitchcock had nursed her tenderly throughout her entire illness, and all was done to sustain the flickering flame that medical science and loving hands could do but her time for dissolution had arrived. The deceased did not suffer at all during her last days, and was fully resigned to the inevitable. When death came she was surrounded by her relatives, and was conscious nearly to the end. Mrs. Hitchcock was born in Schenectady, N.Y. August 24, 1822, and was married April 29, 1849, to R.G. Hitchcock, who survives her, the two being the same age within a few months. As a result of the union there were seven children born, two daughters, Mrs. Etta Rischer, of Ottertail, Mo., and Mrs. Julia Martin of Edgewood, Iowa and one son C.A. Hitchcock, of this city, surviving her, George N., Rienza Al, Edith and Laura having died some time since. The family resided in Delaware county, Iowa, since 1853 prior to coming to Crookston to reside at the home of their son last April. Deceased was a member of the Rebekah lodge at Manchester, Ia., and had been a member of the Methodist church since 1856, having been a member of the Congregational church prior to that time. she had lived a consistent Christian life and looked forward, unafraid, to meeting her Maker. Deceased would have been 90 years of age on the 24th of next August and her 63rd wedding anniversary would have been celebrated April 29th had she lived. There will be short services at the C.A. Hitchcock home, 317 Houston Ave., this evening at 7:30, Rev. W.C. Hodgson officiating, after which the remains will be taken to Edgewood, Ia; where services will be held following which the interment will be made in the family lot at Manchester, Iowa. The death of Mrs. Hitchcock is the culmination of a life well spent, a mother's work well done and a wife's part faithfully filled. And while deep sympathy is felt for the bereaved relatives, there is the greatest consolation in the thoughts of a life well spent, more than the alloted days having been enjoyed, and a fearlessness born of a steadfast faith, in meeting the end. - Crookston, Minnesota, Daily Times, Monday evening, March 4, 1912. Funeral services were held at the home of the deceased's daughter, Mrs. W.H. Martin, Wednesday afternoon. Rev. J.W. Turner officiating. The remains were taken to Manchester taht night for burial.
