He went to be with his Lord and Savior, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born Nov. 8, 1935, in Frankfort District, W.Va., he was the son of the late Lue Thomas and Nellie Mae (Lease) Lease. Lease Sr., 71, of Cumberland, passed away on Sunday, Aug. 5, 2007, at his residence, surrounded by his family. He went to be with his Lord and Savior, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born Nov. 8, 1935, in Frankfort District, W.Va., he was the son of the late Lue Thomas and Nellie Mae (Lease) Lease. He was also preceded in death by one brother, William "Tom" Lease; three sisters, Marie Simpson, Sally McDonald, and Betty Varner; one granddaughter, Toni S. Lease; a special niece, Sheilah Fetters; and a son-in-law, Tony Adams. Lue had served his country as a proud U.S. Marine. Mr. Lease was a retired maintenance supervisor for the Cumberland Manor apartments. He had also worked shortly at Auto Zone before his illness. Lue enjoyed his church family at Trinity Assembly of God, where he attended faithfully. He also enjoyed working on cars. In his younger years, he was an avid rabbit hunter. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. Survivors included his beloved wife, Lynda Haller Lease; five sons, Lue B. Lease Jr. and wife Nancy, Tony Lease, Craig Lease and wife Jackie, Butch Haller and wife Michelle, Berk Haller and wife Tina, all of Cumberland, and Timothy Haller and wife Tracey, of Wilmington, N.C.; two daughters, Beverly Adams, of Philadelphia, Pa., and Anna Campbell and husband Andy, of Cumberland; two sisters, Helen Renstrom and Nora Bittner; three sisters-in-law, Grace Lease, Marie Fetters, and Shirley Schartiger; 19 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., 202 Greene St., Cumberland, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. The funeral service will be conducted at the funeral home on Wednesday at 1 p.m. with Pastor Gregory Georg and Pastor Gerald Wagner officiating. Military honors will be accorded at the funeral home by the Combined Veterans Honor Guard. At Lue's request, his body will then be cremated. Inurnment will be in the Maryland State Veterans Cemetery, Rocky Gap. Memorial contributions may be made to the Trinity Assembly of God Church, 12122 Bedford Road., N.E., Cumberland, MD 21502 or to the WMHS Hospice, c/o Linda Green, 900 Seton Dr., Cumberland, MD 21502 The family would like to thank Hospice, their nurses, and a special aide, Mary Buskirk, for the care they gave Mr. Lease.
