Description	:	Luther McPhail Diggs Sr., 73, of 370-S U.S. #1 Highway, Rockingham, died Monday evening, Oct. 23, 1995 in Hamlet hospital. He was born March 9, 1922 in Richmond County, a son of the late James Riley and Bessie Ussery Diggs. He was retired from Burlington Industries after 37 years service and had served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Read More	Luther McPhail Diggs Sr., 73, of 370-S U.S. #1 Highway, Rockingham, died Monday evening, Oct. 23, 1995 in Hamlet hospital. He was born March 9, 1922 in Richmond County, a son of the late James Riley and Bessie Ussery Diggs. He was retired from Burlington Industries after 37 years service and had served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Cordova United Methodist Church where he was a life-time member having served in numerous capacities of the church and was a lay leader. The Rev. Al Morris, the Rev. Greg Amos, the Rev. Ricky Hughes and the Rev. Richard Stanley will officiate. Interment will follow in Richmond Memorial Park. Surviving are his wife, the former Helen Ferrell; two sons, Luther McPhail Diggs Jr. and Warren Lee Diggs, both of Rockingham; four daughters, Mrs. Frankie (Lana) Heavner of Pelham, Ala., Mrs. Jimmy (Sandra) Goodman, Mrs. Charles (Rose) McKnight and Mrs. Mark (LuAnn) Wesley, all of Rockingham; 18 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one brother, James Benjamin Diggs of Rockingham; three sisters, Mrs. Helen D. Lear, Mrs. Roy (Ettie) Edwards, both of Cordova, and Miss Thornton (Evelyn) Hawkins of Maggie Valley. Mr. Diggs was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and Henry. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 7 until 9 p.m. at Cordova United Methodist Church. Memorials may be made to Cordova United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 279, Cordova, N.C. 28330.
