He is survived by his wife, Anna Rose, two sons, Lyle Jr. of Omaha and Brian of Kansas City, Mo., a daughter, Lana Baker of Sioux City; two sisters, Lena Tilton of Fort Dodge and Julia State of Windom, Minn. He was a veteran of World War II, a member of the Harry Hammons post of the American Legion, a member of the Masonic Lodge, Strahan United Methodist Church and the board of directors of the National Association of Pet Breeders and Dealers. He graduated from Madrid High School and General Motors School. He was the manger of Firestone Store in Fort Dodge and also had a dance band. Lyle and Anna Rose were married at the Bass house at Strahan on December 21, 1941, by the Rev. Peter Jacobs. Lyle enlisted in the Air Corps in 1942 serving the next 18 months at six bases throughout the United States. He was discharged through the Sioux City Air Base July 23, 1943, when they began farming the Bass farm. In 1952, although they continued farming, they moved their residence to Shenandoah as educational opportunities were more available to the children. They bought a farm near Randolph, Iowa, in 1962, but Lyle suffered a heart attack and was no longer able to farm. He worked many years as head cook at the Glenwood State School until his health forced his retirement. Even then refinishing antiques and raising small registered dogs filled his days until his death. Hertz-Mansfield Funeral Home in Malvern is in charge of arrangements.
