Greiner, 94, of Blairsburg, died Tuesday, July 5, at Crestview Senior Living. Lyman Wade Greiner was born Feb. 8, 1911, on a farm south of Rose Grove Church in Liberty Township, the son of Charles and Effie Doolittle Greiner. For his first six years, he lived in Lakefield, Minn. In 1917, the family moved to a farm southwest of Blairsburg. He attended Blairsburg Consolidated School, Cedar Falls Teachers College and Iowa State College. He taught for a short time in Hamilton and Wright counties. He married Violet Frances Hobson Jan. 2, 1938, in Maryville, Mo. The couple resided in Webster City. They later resided in Independence for two years, where they worked at a cooperative oil company. In 1942, they started farming southwest of Blairsburg (the Gold Coin Farm), retiring in 1986 to Story City. In 1985, the farm became an Iowa Century farm. Mrs. Greiner died March 31, 1991. He moved to Crestview Senior Living in August 2004. He was a member of United Church of Christ-Congregational in Blairsburg, a Sunday School teacher, F.H.A. County Committee member, A.S.C. Committee member, Liberty Township Trustee, Cooperative board member for 21 years, I.O.O.F. of Blairsburg, Kohinoor Masonic Lodge No. 576 A.F. and A.M. of Story City, Williams Lions Club, past president of the Cooperative Telephone Company, and the couple served as Farmers and World Affairs ambassadors to India. He is survived by sons and daughters-in-law, Charles and Nancy Greiner of Nevada; Thomas and Joan of Ames; Lyle and Trudie Greiner of Des Moines; 14 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; two great-great granddaughters; two sisters, Hester Fleming of Boise, Idaho, and Ruby Nail of Webster City; three brothers, Loren Greiner of Emmettsburg, Glenn Greiner of Story City and Esley Greiner of Chino Valley, Calif.; a special friend, LaVonne Grove of Jewell; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife; one daughter-in-law, Judy Greiner in 1977; one granddaughter, Rachel Regina Greiner in 1975; and his parents. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, July 8, at Foster Funeral and Cremation Center and after 9 a.m. Saturday, July 9, at the church.
