She graduated from Center High School in 1937. On June 1, 1939, she was united in marriage to Henry M. Yoder at her parents’ home in rural Kalona. She graduated from Center High School in 1937. On June 1, 1939, she was united in marriage to Henry M. Yoder at her parents’ home in rural Kalona. Kathryn was a homemaker and worked with her family on the farm. In February 1950, they moved to the Lone Tree area to minister at Swank Church, where Kathryn was active in the ministry of the church. They purchased a farm near the church and farmed until moving back to Kalona in June of 1987. She was a member of the East Union Mennonite Church. Kathryn died on Tuesday, September 16, 2014, at Pioneer Park in Lone Tree at the age of 95 years. Kathryn is survived by three daughters: Eileen (Ray) Gooch of Grand Junction, Colorado; Mary (Dennis) Grimm of Kalona; Corrine (Dennis) Walker of Riverside; three sons: Merle (Leah) Yoder of Topeka, Indiana; Loran (Diane) Yoder; Kent (Rhonda) Yoder of Lone Tree; eleven grandchildren: Meredith Yoder, Ryan Yoder, Zach Grimm, Darren Yoder, Derek Walker, Chad Yoder, Kyle Yoder, Jordan Walker, Amanda Gooch Miner, Jessica Grimm Vilovchik, and Laura Yoder Ford; thirteen great grandchildren; five step great grandchildren; a sister-in-law Arlene Miller of Kalona; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband in 1998; three grandchildren: Joanna Grimm in 1977, Brad Walker in 1996, Ben Gooch in 2003; and a brother John Wertz Miller in 2007. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, September 22, 2014 at the East Union Mennonite Church, 5615 Gable Ave SW in rural Kalona. Pastor Firman Gingerich will officiate. Burial will be in the East Union Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 3-6 PM on Sunday at the Yoder-Powell Funeral Home in Kalona. A general memorial fund has been established.
