Description	:	Special surname note: Although the headstones for Forrest V Clinkenbeard and his parents Mace and Elzada are engraved with "Clinkinbeard" in this burial plot at Evergreen Cemetery, it is evident from obituaries and other sources that the commonly used surname for this family was "Clinkenbeard". However, of their children, some chose to use Clinkinbeard surname spelling while others used the Clinkenbeard surname spelling. While F/A/G guidelines prefer the spelling of headstones to be used for memorials, in the opinion of this contributor the use of "Clinkinbeard" on this particular memorial could cause great genealogy confusion for those researching... Whether or not the engraved "Clinkinbeard" was an engraving error or a variation on the "Clinkenbeard" name isn't clear; this contributor is choosing to post this memorial under the "Clinkenbeard" surname and will let others who view the headstone photo come to their own conclusions. It doesn't help that the obituary for Mace used both surnames within the same text in reference to him! ------- Fairfield Daily Journal Wednesday April 7, 1915 MACE CLINKENBEARD DIED LAST NIGHT Mace CLINKINBEARD (sic. CLINKENBEARD), one of the best known residents of Jefferson county, passed away at his home in this city Tuesday evening at six o'clock. Mr. CLINKENBEARD was nearly sixty-eight years of age and had been in poor health for more than two years and had been under the care of a nurse for the past three months. The funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday from the First Methodist church and will be conducted by the pastor, Dr. A. H. Lathrop. Interment will be in Evergreen cemetery. Mace CLINKENBEARD was the son of Job and Jane CLINKENBEARD and was born at Libertyville, August 24th, 1847. On October 22, 1865 (sic. not sure if a 2 or 22 as the microfilm image isn't clear on that particular portion) he was married to Miss Elzada BALDWIN at Keosauqua who with eight children and a number of grandchildren survive him. The daughters are: Mrs. C. W. WEBB, Mrs. C. W. LEPPO, Mrs. Roy RAYMOND, Mrs. W. H. JULIAN and Miss Pauline. The sons are Emory (sic. Emery J. CLINKINBEARD was his name spelling of choice), Leslie M. (sic. Leslie E. "Mike" Clinkinbeard was his name spelling of choice), and Forrest (sic. Forrest V. Clinkinbeard/Clinkenbeard). Mr. and Mrs. CLINKENBEARD reared their family near Libertyville and in November, 1905, moved to Fairfield where they have resided since. For over thirty years he had been a faithful member of the Methodist church and was a man of most exemplary character and kind disposition. He had been a member of Masonic orders for about twenty years and took an active part in the Order of Eastern Star in which he served as Worthy Patron. He had a wide circle of friends who will mourn his loss.
