Read More	Glasco Sun, Nov. 6, 1919, page 1: Major Buchanan Whalan was born in Bartholomew county, Indiana August 29, 1858, and died at his home in Glasco, Kan., Oct. 31, 1919 aged 61 years, 2 months, 2 days. From Indiana he went to Clay Co., Ill. in 1963 coming from there to Kansas in 1880 and residing there until his death. In his early manhood he united with the Baptist church at Simpson, later transferring his membership to the Glasco churches, being at the time of his death a member of the M.E. church. On Dec. 13, 1886 he was united in marriage to Josephine Simpson who died March 3, 1901. To this union five children were born, two of whom died in infancy. Three live to mourn his death: Mrs. Viola Asmussen of Culver, Mrs. Myrtle Caughey of Edmond and Albert Whalan of Glasco, all of whom were with him at his death. On Sept. 6, 1908 he was united in marriage to Nancy E. Mann who with her three daughters and one son lives to mourn the loss of a loving husband and foster father. Eight grandchildren survive, and one, little Ned Caughey, preceded him two years ago. Hosts of relatives and numberless friends count themselves richer by association with this true and upright character. To his motherless children, he was father and mother in one making a home for them until grown. All who knew him can pay tribute to his many virtues. ------------------------------ The friends were indeed kind and helpful to us during the sickness and death of our husband and father.
