Mamie was born in Moore county on September 5, 1941, to Henry Felton and Annie Finison Purvis. She was a 1959 graduate of Highfalls High School and attended Mars Hill College where she received her associate's degree in 1961. In 1967 she obtained her Bachelor's degree from Guilford College and later received her master's degree from NC A&T. Mamie spent her entire teaching career of 33 years with Moore County Schools. Her career began at Elise High School, but she spent the majority of her years at Highfalls Elementary. Teaching was her passion and her students were her joy. After retirement she enjoyed traveling and spending time with her family. Mamie was a lifelong member of Beulah Baptist Church. She served in many capacities, including being a Sunday school teacher, choir member, and treasurer. She was a witness to all and her love for Jesus shone brightly in her daily walk with the Lord. She was preceded in death by her parents Henry Felton and Annie Finison Purvis, sisters Virginia Mae Maness, Caroline Bouldin and husband, Sam, Mary Ruth Williams and husband, Roland, and brothers Ray Purvis and wife, Wilma Jean, Dewitt Purvis and wife, Sylvia, and infant brother, Charles. Survivors: She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Robert Lindell Murray, of the residence, son, Tim Murray, and wife, Jill, of Asheboro, daughter, Emily Murray Collins, and husband, Chris, of Bennett. Her greatest blessings were her three grandchildren, Victoria and Lauren Collins, and Camden Murray. She is also survived by her sister, Juanita Kidd, and husband, Robert, of Robbins, brother-in-law, L. H. "Budd" Maness, of Robbins and numerous nieces and nephews. The body will lie in repose on Friday, March 5, 2021, from noon until 5 PM at the Loflin Funeral Home in Ramseur. The family will be at the residence. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, we ask everyone to please wear a mask at all times and practice social distancing throughout the service. Condolences may be made online at www.loflinfuneralservice.com.
