Several persons were within, talking back and forth, but it is reported that no words passed between the two principals. However, it is supposed that Head took offense at remarks which he believed were meant as reflections upon him, whereupon he drew his revolver and fired two shots. One bullet passed along Hare's left arm near the shoulder, making but a slight wound. The other went through the left forearm just back of the wrist, broke and shattered both bones, then entered the inner left shoulder immediately below the collar bone. It was the first shot that did the serious work, and Hare fell out upon the sidewalk, unconscious and bleeding profusely.After the shooting Head walked deliberately across the street, then east along the sidewalk, pausing to glance back occasionally, his revolver swinging from his hand. Not being molested he went home, and offered no opposition when Marshall Woodward and Robert Hillhouse went to apprehend him. He was taken to the county jail at Concordia that night.Hare was conveyed to Dr. Brierley's office where he remained under the care of doctors Newton and Brierley. Later he regained consciousness but is in a very serious condition.The shooting is supposed to be a continuance of the feud which has existed between these two men for several years. Funeral services will be held from the Presbyterian church at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 14. Glasco Sun, Dec. 4, 1903, page 6:Something new in newspaper work happened in the Glasco Sun office on November 13. The SUN had been printed and was being mailed, when the editor learned that Mark Hare had died. He did not want his paper sent without the important item of news, so he set it up in type and printed it on the margin of his paper, just above the head. Inf C White
