Maren had 13 siblings: Half on mother's side: Ramus, Olaug, Dagmar, Sigurd, Jens, and Margot. Half on Father's side: Johannes, Ole, Birgitte, Ottar, Johanne, Ivar, and Olea. Maren trained in the tailoring profession and was a maid before emigrating to America. Marien sailed to America in 1915 to marry her fiance, Henrik Haugan of Ytteroy, Norway who was waiting for her in America. Marien had 8 children with Henry. Dorothy, Mildred (who died around a year old), La Vonne, Maxine, Carl, Maurice " Mush" and Henry. She opened a home and rented rooms of her house to strangers. Maren had a stoke that took her life. She did not go to the hospital. She had a headache for a few days while home. She suffered a stoke on Sunday night and died Tuesday in a Mitchell Hospital without regaining consciousness.
