Read More	SMITH, MARGARET ADELINE—Margaret Adeline Smith was born to Bert Kiester and Clara Cole Kiester on December 11, 1911, at Fairmont, and passed away December 26, 1989, at Fillmore County Hospital in Geneva, at the age of 78 years and 15 days. She was one of five children in the family. Margaret lived with her family on a farm near Fairmont in her early years while attending school District 11. Her family moved to Strang where her parents operated the café and she attended Strang School Marge often spoke of the girls’ basketball team she played on at Strang High School Margaret moved to Geneva to live with her brother, Bob, and wife Mildred, while completing high school and graduating with the Geneva Class of 1929. After graduation she was employed at the Fillmore County Courthouse in the Welfare Assistance Office and during World War II her duties included issuing ration stamps. When the Fairmont Air Base was built, Margaret became personal secretary to a captain during the war. It was at this time she met Leo Smith who also had employment at the base. They were married May 13, 1945, and moved to Central City, where they operated an electrical supply and appliance store. Here they made their home for over 30 years where they were active in the community and the United Methodist Church. In 1973, Leo and Margaret retired from business and in 1978 built a home in Geneva so they could be closer to the family. At the Sunday dinner table Margaret and Phyllis often amused the family by telling stories about the mischief five children can perpetuate on a farm. They also enjoyed reminiscing about the ten years they lived together and shared the joys and tribulations of raising Mel and Pat. Leo and Marge would also tell about all their friends in Central City and the experiences they had with each one. The family cherished those Sunday conversations. Margaret was a quiet, private person, but all of her friends will remember her as a dear, reliable friend. Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leo; and brothers, Sam and Bob Kiester. She is survived by a sister, Phyllis Walker, brother, Floyd Kiester, nieces and nephews and many friends. Funeral services were conducted from the United Methodist Church, Geneva, on December 29, with the Rev. Cal Leeds officiating. Mrs. Norval Lomax accompanied Kelly Eich who sang “In the Garden” and “Precious Memories”. Pallbearers were Rod Barney, Craig Lefever, Rodney Hartman, Darwin Hartman, Mel Elward and Bob Kiester.
