She was one of five children. Phyllis lived with her famiy on a farm near Fairmont in her early years attending school dist no. 11. Her family moved to Strang where her parents operated the cafe and she attended Strang School, in 1924 she married Melvin Elward and to this union two children were born: Pat and Melvin. She was one of five children. Phyllis lived with her famiy on a farm near Fairmont in her early years attending school dist no. 11. Her family moved to Strang where her parents operated the cafe and she attended Strang School, in 1924 she married Melvin Elward and to this union two children were born: Pat and Melvin. There home was in Strang, where Melvin was manager of the Koehler Lumber Company. After a short illness, Melvin died in 1930. a few years later Phyllis and her sister, Margaret bought a home in Geneva, where she continued to live all her life until her illness. Widowed at an early age with two small children, she decided to further her education. in 1945 Phyllis and Leon Walker were united in marriage and they continued to live in Geneva. Leon and Phyllis brother, Bob, formed the Kiester-Walker Construction Company. In 1973 they both retired and enjoyed traveling and spending time with their family.
