Description	:	Mrs. Margaret Ann Eaddy Huggins, 90, former Hemingway High School teacher and cultural leader, died Sunday in a Florence hospital. Mrs. Huggins was born in Hemingway, daughter of the late Zachary Taylor Eaddy and Judith Grier Eaddy. She was the widow of Frederick Eugene Huggins.She and her husband established their home on Main Street in Hemingway in 1913, the year the town was founded. Read More	Mrs. Margaret Ann Eaddy Huggins, 90, former Hemingway High School teacher and cultural leader, died Sunday in a Florence hospital. Mrs. Huggins was born in Hemingway, daughter of the late Zachary Taylor Eaddy and Judith Grier Eaddy. She was the widow of Frederick Eugene Huggins.She and her husband established their home on Main Street in Hemingway in 1913, the year the town was founded. Mrs. Huggins education was provided by private tutors staying in her home. She was tutored at the college level by Dr. William Haselden, a Harvard University professor. Mrs. Huggins studied medicine under her husband's maternal grandfather, Dr. William Sylvester Davis, who had received his education in London, mastered five languages and was a pioneer physician in Williamsburg County. She was a member of the Hemingway First Methodist Church and the women's group of the First Methodist Church is named for her. She was a life member of the Women's Society of Christian Service. In 1908, she helped organize a Methodist Missionary Society, the first of it's type in this area. She was chairman of the Sacrament Committee and prepared and served the sacrament of her church for 33 years. Mrs. Huggins also did extensive work for the Red Cross and PTA. In memory of her late husband, Frederick E. Huggins, who was also active in the Hemingway Methodist Church, served as first church clerk, was on the board of stewards from it's beginning until shortly before his death July 11, 1942, and her son William Sylvester who passed away while a young man, Mrs Huggins gave the seven massive pieces of pulpit furniture which were dedicated to the church during the time E. B. Johnson was serving as pastor. Because of the increase in attendance of the church, she also presented a Sacrament Set. Surviving are four sons: T. Eugene Huggins, F. Edwin Huggins, St. Clair Huggins, all of Hemingway and F. Bertie Huggins of Andrews; Four daughters: Mrs. Lorena H. White of Hemingway, Mrs. Sadie H. Brockington of Andrews, Mrs. Margaret O'Brian of Florence and Mrs Mildred H. Hanks of Hampton. Two brothers, Fitzhugh L. Eaddy of Hemingway. 14 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
