William Devine married Margaret E. Mather on December 25, 1872 in Sauk County, Wisconsin. Prior to his marriage William served with the Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry, Regiment 11, Company F. in the Civil War. He was seriously injured twice during battles at Vicksburg. When he died in 1883, he still had two bullets in his body. William and Margaret had two other children besides Lulu. Charles Alexander Devine FIND A GRAVE # is:149273776 and is buried in St. Cloud, Minnesota in the North Star Cemetery. The youngest child was Stella Alverna (Devine) Graham FIND A GRAVE NUMBER is: 87865866 in the Lakeside Cemetery in Becker County, Minnesota. In 1882 William, Margaret and the children moved to South Dakota but William became seriously ill and they returned to Prairie du Sac, Sauk County, Wisconsin where he died on May 13, 1883. After William's death, Margaret and the children moved to Becker County, Minnesota where she had several siblings living there. In the 1900 Federal Census for Burlington Township, Becker County, Minnesota Charley and Stella (listed as Esletta) are with their mother and Margaret's brother Samuel Grant Mather and his son James Mather are also in the home. In 1920, Margaret and Lulu are living in Oakland, Alameda County, California. Lulu is also a widow and is working as a nurse in a doctor's office. Lulu's husband was William A. Hall.
