Read More	Margaret Ruth (Brabham) Carroll, of Bakersfield, Calif., passed away Sept. 12, 2014, after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s. Margaret was born March 25, 1927, in Callaway, the middle child of William F. and Mary G. (Gordon) Brabham. In 1932, the family moved to a farm near Stapleton, where Margaret attended high school, graduating in 1944. She then attended Kearney State College, where she majored in business and accounting. She moved to North Platte, working as a bookkeeper for Sixth Street Market, a finance company and later First National Bank. While in North Platte, she met Jack Carroll, and they were married on Sept. 12, 1952. They relocated to Boulder, Colo., where she worked in the finance office of the University of Colorado while Jack attended college. There, her first son, Dennis, was born. Shortly after Jack’s graduation, the family moved to Bakersfield, where Cathleen, Dan and David were born. While the children were young, Margaret stayed busy, shuttling them to different activities and school functions, and she was active in PTA. In the early ’70s, Margaret decided to return to the work force, finishing her associate of arts degree at Bakersfield Community College, and in 1973, she started her career at Kern Medical Center as an account clerk. She thoroughly enjoyed her work there and made many very special friends among her coworkers. These friends, along with family, helped support her through the loss of her husband, Jack, in 1989. They also became her traveling companions as she made several trips to Europe and the Los Angeles area for Broadway shows. Margaret retired in January 1998 from Kern Medical Hospital after 24½ years of service. In her later years, she enjoyed gardening, feeding the ducks at Hart Park and spending time with family. Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Carroll; her parents, William and Mary Brabham; and her sister, Mary McGovern. She is survived by her daughter, Cathleen (Clifford) Chidgey, of Bakersfield, Calif.; sons, Dennis (Noel) Carroll, of Bakersfield, Calif. Dan (Ciara) Carroll, of Flint, Mich., and David Carroll, of Bakersfield, Calif.; two granddaughters, Elisa (Chris) Huot, of Bakersfield, Calif., and Emily Carroll, of Seattle, Wash.; brother, Joseph (Pam) Brabham, of North Platte; and several nieces and nephews. A viewing was at Hillcrest Memorial Park on Sept. 25 and graveside services were on Sept. 26 at the Sunrise Lawn section of Hillcrest Memorial Park.
