Description	:	Marguerite Bernice Auld was born April 15, 1909, in Ontario, Iowa, the daughter of John A. and Frances Mae (Oden) Auld. She was raised and educated in several small Iowa schools including Atwood and Delta. Marguerite graduated from Delta high school and then attended Iowa State Teachers College (now the University of Northern Iowa) where she received her teaching certificate. They made their home on the family farm near... Read More	Marguerite Bernice Auld was born April 15, 1909, in Ontario, Iowa, the daughter of John A. and Frances Mae (Oden) Auld. She was raised and educated in several small Iowa schools including Atwood and Delta. Marguerite graduated from Delta high school and then attended Iowa State Teachers College (now the University of Northern Iowa) where she received her teaching certificate. In 1933, Marguerite began her career in teaching in Montour, and also taught in various rural Marshalltown schools. On June 11, 1939, Marguerite was united in marriage to Carlton Elvis Lynk. They made their home on the family farm near Green Mountain. She taught 5th and 6th grade and music at the Green Mountain School until 1943 when Michael was born. Marguerite was a lifelong farmwife in the Green Mountain area where she raised her family and was very active in farming, her church and civic activities. She returned to teaching in 1964 at Green Mountain where she often taught the sons and daughters of her former students. Along with Carlton, Marguerite enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and Europe visiting her sons who were both career US Air Force officers. In 1979 she spent a month traveling in Turkey while visiting Maury and his family who were stationed there. She retired from teaching in 1981 to spend more time with her sons and grandchildren. Following Carlton's death in 1994 Marguerite moved to the Embers Retirement Community in 1995 where she remained active in church and social activities. She enjoyed playing music, cards and participating in activities at the Senior Citizens Center. She moved to the Grandview Heights Care Center in 2002 and remained there until the time of her death. Marguerite was an avid musician playing the piano, cello and violin and was a leading vocalist in the community playing and singing for several funerals, weddings, anniversaries and other occasions. Above all Marguerite was a devoted homemaker, mother and grandmother to her family. She devoted her entire life to educating, caring for and serving others. Marguerite was a member of the Green Mountain United Church of Christ where she was active in the Ladies Aid/Women's Fellowship, was a founding member of the 3M Study Club, past Marion Township Clerk, Republican Committee Woman, member of the Marshalltown Elks, Does, and Elks Ladies Club and the Senior Citizens Center. She was also active in the American Legion Auxillary and the Retired Rural Teachers Association. Marguerite is survived by her two sons: Michael C. Lynk of Tampa, Florida and Maury (Marybeth) Lynk of Marshalltown, her granddaughter Michelle (Dr. Marc) Anders of Orlando, Florida, her grandsons Matthew C. Lynk of Gainesville, Florida, and Senior Airman D. Russell Lynk (USAF) of Spokane, Washington and her great-grandson Noah Anders of Orlando, Florida. Marguerite was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Carlton E. Lynk in June of 1994, an infant sister and her brothers Donald and Dale Auld. She is much loved and will be missed by not only her family, but also by the thousands of her friends and all those whose lives she touched in education, music, church and friendship. Services will be held at: 10:30 A.M., Saturday, July 23, 2005, at the Pursel-Davis Funeral Home & Crematory. Following services, burial will take place at the Green Mountain Cemetery. Visitation times are: 5:00 P.M. – 9:00 P.M. Friday, July 22, 2005, at Pursel-Davis Funeral Home & Crematory where her family will be present to greet friends from 5:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed in her name to the Green Mountain United Church of Christ.
