ANKE MARIA FREESE Funeral services for Mrs. Anke Maria Freese who passed away at the Mercy hospital at Anamosa at six o’clock on Easter Sunday, were held Wednesday with Rev. J. Willms, pastor of the Wayne Zion Lutheran church in charge. The services were at 10 a.m. at the home and 10:30 at the church. The deceased was born March 16, 1864, at Leerhafe, Ostfriesland, Germany, the only child of the late John Schaaf and Frauke Rolfs, nee Seehusen. She was baptized at an early age. When nine years old, Mrs. Freese came to the United States with her parents, and after a three years’ residence at Chattsworth, Ill., the family moved to the vicinity of Amber where she has since resided. She was confirmed on April 10, 1881 in the Wayne Zion Lutheran church of which she has long been a member. On February 25, 1886she was united in wedlock with Tobe Freese who died on July 13 of last year. The couple celebrated the 50th anniversary of their wedding a little over a year ago. Seven children were born to this union, four surviving their mother. George died of the flu in England during the world war, a daughter, Mrs. Meta Osterkamp, died during the flu epidemic of 1918, and another son, William, died in 1935. Besides her own children she reared her grandson from his infancy. About the first of March Mrs. Freese became ill but rallied for a short while. The Wednesday preceding her death she entered Mercy hospital for further examination but was soon stricken with paralysis and died without regaining consciousness. She is survived by four sons, Henry, John, Carl and Herman, 15 grandchildren, and one great grandchild. Mrs. Freese was a fine Christian mother and beloved by her family, neighbors and friends.
