Services were held from the Wayne Zion Lutheran church, Wednesday, Apr. 20 at 1:30 o'clock with the Rev. Otto Zwanziger, pastor officiating and burial at Oakwood, Monticello. John Henry Freese was born Mar. 20, 1892, near Amber, Iowa, in Wayne township, the son of Tobe and Maria Schaaf Freese. He received his education in the rural schools. On Dec. 31, 1914, he was united in marriage to Marie Folkers, also of Wayne township. They made their home and occupation farming in Wayne and Jackson townships of Jones county, until their retirement in 1943, when they moved to Anamosa, later moving to Monticello in 1956 to their present home at 120 North Chestnut Street. The deceased, since retiring, was associated in businesses with his sons in operating the Ford Automobile Agency and the Farm Implement business, known at the Reese Motors, Inc. He was a member of the Wayne Zion Evangelical Lutheran church. Survivors include his wife, Marie, Monticello; two sons, Alva and Louis Freese, both Monticello; five daughters, Mrs. Evelene Helgens, Scotch Grove; Annette, Mrs. Larry Walton, Anamosa; Irene, Mrs. Raymond Biere, Olin; Ellie, Mrs. Donald Schwartz, Anamosa; and Bernice, Mrs. Owen Edwards, Iowa City. Also surviving are 25 grandchildren, and five great grandchildren, as are two brothers, Henry Freese, Amber and Carl Freese, Anamosa. He was preceded in death by four brothers, one sister and two grandchildren. Pallbearers included Edwin Freese, Ray Freese, Melvin Freese, Theodore Freese, Elmer Osterkamp and Meinhardt Freese.
