She died at Nebraska Methodist Hospital In Omaha, March 26, 1989 at age 69 years, six months and six days. She was baptized, received her First Communion and was confirmed at St Mary's Catholic Church in Panama and attended school in Panama. Feb 1, 1938, she married Vincent "Pat" Sonderman at St Mary's Catholic Church in Portsmouth, Seven children were born to this union. After their marriage, they farmed on the same farm near Portsmouth for many years. After retiring in 1978, they continued to make their home on the farm. After the death of her husband in Sept of 1981, she continued to reside on the farm until May of 1983 when she moved into Portsmouth. In addition to being a member of St Mary's Catholic Church, she was a member of the Rosary Society, Birthday Club, Quilting Club, a 42 year member of Ringside Club and various other church and civic groups. Preceding her in death in addition to her parents and husband was a daughter, Janice; two brothers, Urban and Damion Schechinger; and two sisters, Carmelita Heese and Gemma Sonderman. She is survived by a son, Kenneth of LaHabra, CA; five daughters, Maxine (Mrs Bob) Kenkel of Omaha, NE; Donna (Mrs Jerry) Heckert of Alexandria, MN; Beverly (Mrs Jim) Phillips of Palm Harbor, FL and Sandy and Linda Sonderman both of Omaha; 14 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two brothers, Willard Schechinger of Co. Bluffs; and Nicholas Schechinger of Portsmouth; one sister Catherine (Mrs Ed) Rosenthal of Salem, OR; nieces, nephews and other relatives. A Mass of Christian Burial was concelebrated March 29, 1989 at St Mary's Catholic Church, Portsmouth with Rev Mike McLaughlin, celebrant and Rev Edward Kelly, Homolist. Concelebrating were Msgr. Michael W Schwarte, Rev RIck Arkfeld and Rev Ben Kenkel. Burial was in St Mary's Cemetery, Portsmouth with Brian Kenkel, Scott Heckert, Waylin Rowell, Doug Sonderman, Guyle Sonderman and Robert Sonderman serving as casketbearers. Survivors include one son, Kenneth of LaHabra, Calif; five daughters, Maxine (Mrs Bob) Kenkel of Omaha, Donna (Mrs Jerry) Heckert of Alexandria, Minn, Beverly (Mrs Jim) Phillips of Palm Harbor, Fla, and Sandy and Linda, both of Omaha; two brothers, Willard Schechinger of Council Bluffs and Nicholas Schechinger of Portsmouth; one sister, Catherine (Mrs Ed) Rosenthal of Salem, Ore, 14 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
