Description	:	Marlin Schacht The funeral for Marlin A. Schacht, 69, of Hooper will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Hooper. He died of cancer Friday, Nov. 26, 2004, at Fremont Area Medical Center. He was born April 12, 1935, in Cook to Elmer and Viola (Bartels) Schacht. Schacht, 69, of Hooper will be 10 a.m. Thursday at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Hooper. He died of cancer Friday, Nov. 26, 2004, at Fremont Area Medical Center. He was born April 12, 1935, in Cook to Elmer and Viola (Bartels) Schacht. They moved north of Tecumseh where he attended country school through the third grade and then attended Tecumseh Grade School and High School through his freshman year. The family moved to Dawson in 1951 and he graduated from Dawson High School in 1953. He served in the U.S. Air Force for four years in telecommunications. He married Betty Workman on June 4, 1960, in Humboldt. He was hired in 1961 by Eastern Nebraska Public Power in Syracuse, which later became Omaha Public Power District. He transferred to Hooper in 1969 and retired in 1994 after 35 years. He worked for the betterment of the Hooper community. He was instrumental in starting the little children's wrestling program in Hooper in 1972 and coached his sons' teams from PeeWee through the town team. He joined the Lions Club in 1972 and as president, was chairman of the Centennial-Bi-Centennial Celebration in Hooper in 1976. He was awarded a plaque from Lions International as Hooper's Outstanding Lion of the Year. He was a member and past commander of American Legion Post 18 of Hooper and as commander in 1989, his goal of having an Avenue of Flags at the cemetery was realized. He was a member of Fremont Voiture Locale 1018, of the 40 & 8. He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church at Hooper and had served on the building committee. He served two terms on the Logan View School Board, served as president of the Medical Building Equipment Fund when the medical clinic in Hooper was opened in 1982. He was a member of Elkhorn Valley Golf Club at Hooper and Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 200 of Fremont. He was a board member of the Hooper Housing Authority. He volunteered for several years at the Omaha Golf Classic in Omaha, representing the Nebraska Children's Home. He also was a member of the Hooper Volunteer Fire Department. Survivors include: his wife, Betty; a son, Terry (and wife, Sheryl) Schacht of Fremont; a daughter, Tammy (Mrs. Kerry) Eckhoff of Cole Camp, Mo.; a brother, LaMar (and wife, Orlee) Schacht of Falls City; three sisters, Donna Jean Hindera (and special friend, Daryl Farley) of Sterling, Ruth Drake and Sandi (Mrs. Duaine) Stalder, all of Humboldt; four sisters-in-law, Pat Workman of Beatrice, Nancy Workman and Linda Workman, both of Lincoln, and Pearl Warner of Palmyra; brother-in-law, Hal Dean (and wife, Carol) Workman of Funk; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by six brothers-in-law. The Rev. Greg Hall of Faith United Methodist Church in Hooper will officiate Thursday's service. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday with the family receiving friends from 6:30-8 p.m., all at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. Visitation will continue one hour prior to service time at the church. The graveside service will be 3 p.m. Thursday at Humboldt Cemetery in Humboldt with military honors by Humboldt American Legion Post. A memorial will be established in his name.
