Description	:	Marlys was born March 27, 1936, in Marshalltown, Iowa, the daughter of Willis and Norma (Finders) Dowden. She was raised and educated in Marshalltown. She graduated from Marshalltown High School with the class of 1954 and then attended Marshalltown Community College. Marlys was united in marriage to Larry Southard on June 25, 1955, at the Central Christian Church in Marshalltown. She was a homemaker and mother to her children. Read More	Marlys was born March 27, 1936, in Marshalltown, Iowa, the daughter of Willis and Norma (Finders) Dowden. She was raised and educated in Marshalltown. She graduated from Marshalltown High School with the class of 1954 and then attended Marshalltown Community College. Marlys was united in marriage to Larry Southard on June 25, 1955, at the Central Christian Church in Marshalltown. She was a homemaker and mother to her children. Marlys was a lifelong member of the Central Christian Church where she served on the CWF – as an Executive Committee Vice President and Circle Group Deborah as a Co-Leader. Throughout her lifetime she was very active in the Marshalltown community. She was a member of the P.E.O. Chapter LT for over 10 years, a MMSC Hospital Auxiliary Board volunteer for over 35 years, a Girl Scout Leader and a volunteer for the Emergency Food Box. Above all Marlys was a wife, mother and grandmother to her family, never missing any of her children's or grandchildren's many activities. She enjoyed traveling and snow skiing with family and friends. Marlys is survived and will be greatly missed by her husband Larry Southard of Marshalltown, her daughters: Lori (Kevin) Howe of Adel, and Becky (Rob) Shiek of Marshalltown, her four grandchildren: Caitlyn and Lindsay Shiek and Michelle and Brandon Howe along with many friends and the card club group. Marlys was preceded in death by her parents Norma and Willis Dowden. Services will be held at: 10:30 A.M., Monday, August 8, at the Central Christian Church in Marshalltown. Following services, burial will take place at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. Visitation times are: 2:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M., Sunday, August 7, at Pursel-Davis Funeral Home & Crematory where her family will be present to greet friends from 2:00 P.M. – 5:00 P.M. Memorial contributions may be directed in her name to the Central Christian Church.
