Cherry County News November 9, 1939 MRS. TED ORMESHER CALLED Born at Kilgore, Nebraska April 28th, 1894, Mrs. Ted Ormesher was called from this life November 3rd, 1939 after but a short illness. A daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. R. Thomas, she spent her entire life in Cherry County, having taught school during the days of young womanhood. On November 13th, 1913 she was united in marriage to Mr. Ted Ormesher to which union eight children were born, Dorothy Margaret and Teddy John having died in infancy. Surviving are her husband and six children: James, Robert Bruce, Margery, Alice Marie, Doris Lucile and infant son: her parents, Mr. and Mrs. C.R. Thomas; one brother John Thomas of Pueblo, Colorado; two sisters, Mrs. Alice Mangeson of National City,California and Mrs. Emily Dean of Pine Ridge, South Dakota. Mr. Ormesher had ever been a happy and contented young lady, wife and mother, ever ready to assist where possible, and always devoted to the welfare of her family. Her life is testimony of her faithfulness and good will toward humanity and through her death we will lose one whom was devoutly loved and admired. Funeral services were conducted from the Methodist Church in Valentine Monday afternoon by Rev. Slagg with interment in Mount Hope Cemetery. The News joins the host of friends in extending sincere sympathy to the bereaved family and relatives with them, mourn. Note: Martha's oldest son James, or Jim reported that his mother was recognized as an accomplished Mid-Wife, who in the early days had assisted in the home delivery of babys in the surrounding ranch community - some 20 or more miles from the nearest Doctor. It is ironic she lost her own life, delivering her 8th child at the age of 45. Unfortunately for Martha and many others like her, anti-biotics did not arrive at Valentine until the early 1940s.
