Mrs. Packer, nee Martha Suckow, was born in Durbin, Dakota Territory on Sept 22, 1880 to Rev. and Mrs. William Suckow. In 1910 she came to Montana with her brothers and sisters and homesteaded north of Rudyard where she made her home ever since. In 1914 Martha was married to Erwin M. Packer and to them were born Marie (Mrs. Edgar Lincoln) of Rudyard, Doris (Mrs. Charles Kegel) of Havre, Bruce of Inverness, Cora Mae (Mrs. Frank Theobald) of Churchville, N.Y. and Dorothy (Mrs. John Duncan) of Joplin. Mrs. Packer was a charter member of Grace Evangelical Church which was erected on the corner of her homestead in 1912, and which has been an important center of the activities of her life ever since. She served as church organist over a period of 40 years, and was accompanist for a male quartet during most of that time. She was a charter member of the Women's Missionary Society of her church, Pioneer Home Demonstration Club, and the Hill County Friends of the Library. Mr. Packer passed away in 1934 and she continued farming and ranching with her son until recent retirement. Also preceding her in death were two brothers, Reuben and Alfred Suckow. Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Charles Mills and Mrs. Hilliard Ritter, both of Columbia Falls, a brother E. B. Suckow of Ronan, her five children, seventeen grand children and ten great grandchildren.
