Description	:	Marie Ruth (Packer) Lincoln was born on the family homestead 18 miles north of Rudyard, Montana on January 8, 1915. She was the eldest of five children born to Erwin and Martha (Suckow) Packer. Her early education was completed at a country school near the farm. Marie attended Havre High School as a freshman, then finished her schooling in Rudyard, graduating from R.H.S. in 1934. Marie married a neighbor, Edgar A. Lincoln on June 29th, 1935 at Havre. Marie attended Havre High School as a freshman, then finished her schooling in Rudyard, graduating from R.H.S. in 1934. Marie married a neighbor, Edgar A. Lincoln on June 29th, 1935 at Havre. They made their home on the Lincoln farm north of Rudyard and raised their family of five. Edgar died on September 20th, 1955 of cancer. Marie remained on the farm until 1963, when she moved into Rudyard. She has lived there since. Marie's health remained good over the years. She recently suffered a heart attach and died at the Liberty County Hospital in Chester on the early morning of Friday (August 25, 1995). She was 80 years old. Marie has been involved in many activities. She was an early member of the Sage Hens Home Demonstration Club of Rudyard, a past chairwoman of the Hill County Farm Bureau, and a member of the Christian Women's Club of Chester. She worked as a cook at the Rudyard School for a few years and helped with several summer Bible camps. Her main interest in life (beyond her family) was her love of the Calvary Evangelical Church and her dedication to O.M.S. (Oriental Missionary Society) International. Marie had a strong, undying faith in the Lord and was always eager to share and support her beliefs. When she moved to Rudyard, Marie dedicated her home to the Lord. Consequently, her house became a haven to visiting ministers and her car provided excellent escort for many missionaries. Marie's hobbies included yard work and gardening, reading and embroidery. She had a small collection of salt-and-pepper shakers and cups-and-saucers. She enjoyed writing letters and corresponding with friends and family. Marie kept herself in shape, both spiritually and physically; she took brisk walks of 2-3 miles around Rudyard most every day. Of interest was the fact that she entered the "Bear Paw Run" about three years ago and finished the 5-K event in 43 minutes! Marie was also an exceptional homemaker and hostess; when anyone stopped by, she was always ready with fresh coffee and her delicious homemade cinnamon rolls. Marie was ecstatic this past summer when her entire family gathered to celebrate her 80th birthday. She loved her family dearly, and having them all together was truly the "frosting on her cake". Marie is survived by three sons and their wives, Joe and Sandra Lincoln of Rudyard, Lee & Karol Lincoln of Missoula, and Art and Jan Lincoln of Kalispell; one daughter and her husband, Ruth and Fred Newton of Diamond Bar, California; one daughter-in-law, Fern Larson of Burlington, Washington, ten grandchildren; five great grandchildren; three sisters, Doris Kegel of Havre, Cora Mae Theobald of Boston, Massachusettes, and Dorothy Duncan of Joplin; one sister-in-law, Winnie Packer of Billings; and numberous nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband (Edgar), son (Roy), and brother (Bruce Packer). Funeral services were held at 4:00 p.m. Monday (August 28th) at the Calvary Evangelical Church with Pastor Nolan Spenst officiating. Marie's nieces assisted with the music; Tammy Duncan served as organist and Rhea Duncan was soloist. Vocal tributes included "Someday the Silver Cord Will Break" and "The Eastern Gate". The congregation sang "At Calvary" and "My Jesus, I Love Thee". Ushers were nephews Roger Lincoln, Bruce Duncan and Keith Duncan. Grandchildren serving as pallbearers were Lisa, Janet, Leah, Lori, Jeff, Kelly and Edgar Lincoln. Memorial Bearers were the remaining grandchildren; Kim Kaleva, Angela Grandbois and Lisa Kasbohm. Immediately following the service, a luncheon for family and friends was given at the Rudyard Catholic Youth Center. Graveside prayers and burial was at 6:30 p.m. at the Grace Church Cemetery located 18 miles north of Rudyard. Arrangements were by Rockman Funeral Chapel of Chester. Memorials will be given to Calvary Church or O.M.S. Internatnional.
