Hugh Savage sang, "Oh, Sacred Heart of Jesus, I place My Trust in Thee." Mr. O'Neil passed away early Saturday morning after an illness of several days. Pallbearers were Ray Sands, Orville Stromberg, Francis Stromberg, Walter MacKenzie, J. E. O'Neil, and Max P. Kuhr. Internment was in Calvary cemetery. Mr. O'Neil who came to Havre in 1890 when this city was but one shack and a store in a tent, was well-known throughout the territory. Since his retirement several years ago, the home ranch on lower Clear creek has been operated by his son, John. Mr. O'Neil was born in County Clare, Ireland, Feb. 3, 1867, and came to St. Paul, Minn., at the age of 16. When a youth 56 years ago, he came out west to work for the Great Northern railway. Forty-eight years ago, in the spring of 1898, Mr. O'Neil homesteaded east of Havre. He was married February 22, 1898 at Fort Benton to Julia Lamey who survives him. The couple made their home on the ranch almost continuously and raised their children there. To this union were born two sons, John and Dan of Havre, and five daughers, Mrs. Eugene (Margaret) Clark, Whitehall; Mrs. Chester (Katherine) Clark, Havre; Mrs. James (Julia) Sprague, Wenatchee, Washington; Mrs. Maurice (Ann) Clark, Great Falls and Mrs. Everett (Maryhelen) O'Neil, Havre. Surviving brothers are John, Glasgow; Mike, Berkeley, Cal.; Dan, Havre, and Theodore, Ireland. Left to mourn Mr O'Neil's passing are 12 grandchildren. Mr. O'Neil was an active member of the Montana Woolgrowers association for years.
