Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. tomorrow in the Dolliver Community Methodist church with the Rev. W.S. Handy officiating. He will be assisted by the Rev. M.L. Carver of Lake Park, former pastor here. Interment will be in the Dolliver cemetery. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, June 23, 1937) Funeral Rites For Mrs. John Barfoot Today Dolliver, June 26 – Funeral services for Mrs. John Barfoot, 79, resident of this community for many years who died at her home Tuesday evening, were held at 2:30 p.m. today in the Dolliver Community church. The Rev. W.S. Handy and the Rev. M.L. Carver of Lake Park, former pastor here, conducted the services. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, June 26, 1937) Mrs. J. Barefoot [Barfoot], Dolliver Dies; Rites Thursday Dolliver – Funeral services for the late Mrs. John Barfoot were held in the Community church on Thursday afternoon at 2:30 with the Rev. Wm. S. Handy present pastor and Rev. M.L. Carver of Lake Park, former pastor in charge. A mixed quartet composed of Rev. M.L. Carver, Rev. Wm. S. Handy, Mrs. M.L. Carver and Mrs. A.R. Eckhart sang "The Touch of His Hand on Mine," "The Nearer I Reach the End of Time" and "Abide With Me." Rev. Handy used as his text "She Hath Done What She Could." Miss Margaret Handy presided at the piano. Pallbearers were Messers. M.C. Peterson, W.L. Peterson, Wm. Ross, Henry Holl, L.P. Stillman, and M.J. Iverson. Those attending the services from a distance were: Mr. and Mrs. Frank Kennedy and daughter Frances and Doris of Waterbury, Nebr.; Mr. Ernest Harding of Park Rapids, Minn.; Mr. and Mrs. Earl Barfoot of Wallingford, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Lange of Chicago and Mrs. Ethel Kennedy of Sioux City. Interment was in the Dolliver cemetery. Had Mrs. Barfoot lived until the 31st of October she would have been 80 years of age. She was in faily good health until about two weeks ago when she suffered a paralytic stroke, which she was unable to overcome and the end came peacefully Thursday evening at 8 o'clock. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, June 29, 1937) Obituary of Mrs. John Barfoot Mary Ann Barfoot, daughter of the Rev. and Mrs. Samuel Barfoot was born near London, Ontario, Canada, on October 31, 1857 and died at Dolliver, Iowa on June 22, 1937 at the age of 79 years, 7 months and 22 days. When she was still an infant the family came to the United States and made their home near Whitewater, Wisconsin. Here Mary grew to womanhood and on June 20, 1880 she was married to John Barfoot whom her uncle had adopted at the Little Prairie church in Wisconsin. In the fall of 1880 Mr. and Mrs. Barfoot came to north central Iowa, spending the winter near Curlew. The following spring they moved to the ranch four miles east of Emmetsburg which was their home for several years. Swan Lake township was the location for the next period after which they moved to Seneca in Kossuth county. In 1900 they with their family moved to Maple Hill community and about five years later came into the Dolliver community which has been their home ever since. Eight children came to gladden their home, five of whom survive with the father to mourn the passing of the beloved wife and mother. They are Nellie, Mrs. Earnest Harding of Park Rapids, Minn.; Bessie, Mrs. Charley Mast of Greeley, Colorado; Edward L. Barfoot of Torrington, Wyo.; Edith, Mrs. Frank Kennedy of Waterbury, Nebraska and Earl Barfoot of Wallingford, Ia. George H., Atta Lucile and Grant Vernon preceded their mother into the better world. Mrs. Barfoot became a member of the Seneca Methodist church in the nineties and has been an active and sincere member until her passing to the church of triumph. Every department of the church has a some time felt the quiet and faithful service of this good woman. Mrs. Barfoot also leaves 21 grandchldren and six great grand children. Funeral services were held at the Dolliver Community Methodist church Thursday afternoon, June 24th at 2:30 o'clock. Rev. W.S. Handy assisted by Rev. M.L. Carver of Lake Park conducted in the services. Interment was made in the Dolliver cemetery. Music was furnished by Mrs. A.R. Eckhart, Rev. and Mrs.Carver and Rev. Handy accompanied at the piano by Miss Margaret Handy. Misses W.C. Petersen, harry Hull, Wm. Ross, L.P. Stillman, W.L. Petersen and M.J. Iverson acted as pall bearers. Mrs. Barfoot will be greatly missed by many friends and neighbors as well as her family. She was always active in everything and always trying to do something for the children of the town and we know she is gone to that eternal home not made by human hands. The sympathy of the many friends and neighbors is with the aged husband, the children and the grand children in their time of sorrow. "Gone but not forgotten."
