These portions are selected to describe her early life: "....her mother died when she was twelve years old after which, in 1857, she came to Iowa with her father and two brotheres. They were early settlers in the vicinity of Salina, northeast of Fairfield. ....Before her marriage, during the Civil war Misss McCulley and several young women linving in the Salina community were sworn into service and carried the U.S. mail from Salina to Beckwith and Lockridge. They often walked to Beckwith continuing the journey to Lockridge on horse back. A brother, Joe McCulley was killed in the sourth during the war while his sister was doing her bit carrying the mails....." -------- From Fairfield Daily Ledger, Friday June 17, 1932: "Pay Tribute to Mrs. Bradshaw ....Dr. Gilbert Voorhies of the Frist Presbyterian church officiated at the last rites. Miss Cora Ball and Mrs. L.W. Van Nostrand sang "Lead Kindly Light" and "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" accompanied on the piano by Mrs. Voorhies. The casket was banked with many beautiful floral pieces sent by friends ...."
