The immediate cause of her death was heart failure. Mary B. Cooley-Elling was born in Vermont in October, 1849 (sic). With her parents she came to Virginia City in the fall of 1865. On July 20, 1879,* she was united in marriage to Henry Elling. To this union were born 10 children, namely: Alice, Henry, Herman, Helen, Henrietta, Mabel, Carlotta, Karl, Harrison and Horace. The three first named and Horace have departed this life, as also has the father, who was called to the Great Beyond on November 14, 1900. The last services were held from the Elling Memorial Episcopal church in this city on Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, Reverend Thomas Bennett of Dillon officiating. Appropriate hymns, especially selected by Mrs. Elling during her lifetime for this occasion, were sung by a choir composed of Miss Maude Trout, leader and organist, Mrs. S. Q. Clark, Mrs. Richard Peel, Mrs. Lyman H. Bennett, Mrs. A. P. Duncan, Mrs. George R. Allen, Esther Christensen, William Siprelle, C. M. Holbert and George Lowman. The flowers were many and beautiful, but not more beautiful than the face that rested so peacefully among them. Beautiful in life, beautiful in death but far more beautiful in the glorious resurrection morn. Flowers seem to be the best emblem we have to express our love, for we wreathe them around the cradle, the marriage altar and the tomb. Thus would we leave her, and in memory keep her, as sweetly reposing among the beautiful and fragrant flowers. ~~ *Henry Elling and Mary Cooley were married at Virginia City in July, 1870.
