Buford, widow of the late S. R. Buford. The physicians, nurse and loving friends were untiring in their care and attention and no earthly measures to restore her to health were overlooked, but an all-wise God willed otherwise and at 3:30 Wednesday afternoon, Oct. 11, 1905, she was gathered to the angels. When the end came there were at her bedside her son, Henry W., and wife, her daughter Ruth, and sister, Miss Bessie Cooley. The other two children, Miss Effie Buford and Simeon R., were in Ossining, near New York, attending school. They were notified Wednesday morning by telegraph of their mother's condition and advised to come home at once. They will arrive home Sunday night and it will be a sad home coming to them. Mrs. Mary B. Elling, another sister, was on the road from New York and will arrive here this evening. Mrs. Kate A. Buford was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. William A. Cooley, honored pioneers of Montana. She was born January 4, 1857, near Quebec, Canada. Her father came to Montana in 1865 and settled on the Madison valley. The family reached here in 1870. She was educated in the schools of the county. As a young girl she was bright, winsome and lovable and grew into the hearts of a large circle of friends who watched her grow into perfect young womanhood. As a young lady she was a favorite in a large circle of young people on the Madison valley. She was a leader in the social life of the early settlement. Hers was a beautiful, splendid character, so womanly, so gracious, loyal and lovely in every way; a nature so sunny and affectionate that one was made better by coming in contact with her; always ready to listen to and extend aid to those in trouble and in need, a good angel in many needy families and the Lady Bountiful in more than one destitute family in Virginia City. Open-hearted, open-handed, sympathetic and tender she will be missed beyond words. On her twentieth birthday, January 4, 1877, she was united in marriage to Simeon R. Buford, who, after months of suffering, passed to the great beyond January 16, 1905, scarcely nine months ago. Their home was a happy one. They began their married life with but little of this world's goods. They worked together and at Mr. Buford's death, the family was left in comfortable circumstances. She was a loving wife and devoted mother. She took little interest in social affairs, but devoted all of her time to the care and attention of her children and home. Mr. and Mrs. Buford had eight children, four of whom are living and mourn their mother's sudden taking away. She was an ideal mother and wife.
