MARY MEE Respected Lady Passes Away After Brief Illness Mrs. George Mee passed from this life suddenly last Saturday morning after a brief illness. Mrs. Mee had not been very well for some little time but was able to be up and around until Friday, when she was stricken with pneumonia, death ensuing within twenty-four hours. Mrs. George Mee, whose maiden name was Mary Coulter, was born in Cavan, County Cavan, Ireland, June 13, 1843. When 13 years of age she moved to Canada where her parents had preceded her by a few months, and resided at Toronto until 1871, when she came to California, locating at Sacramento. In April 1874 she was married to George Mee and on April 22, 1877, moved to St. Helena, and near this town she has made her home for the past thirty-four years. To Mr. and Mrs. Mee were born seven children—William E., Hattie S., (now Mrs. S.P. Ayers), George T., Thomas H., James G., Harry L. and John G., all of whom, with the husband survive her and mourn her sudden death. Mrs. Mee was a devoted Christian and for many years had been an earnest and devout member of the Methodist church. Her children were early taught to follow in the footsteps of their Master and every Sunday found them in their places in the Sunday school and at church services. She lived to see her daughter and six sons grow to fill useful places in the world and to command the respect of the communities in which they make their homes. Her bible was to her inspiration and strength and assisted her through the may struggles of life. She possessed a strong and beautiful character, was very quiet and retiring, but held the love of all with whom she became acquainted. In addition to her husband and seven children, deceased is survived by two brothers and four sisters. The funeral took place Tuesday afternoon from the Methodist church, Rev. U.E. Partridge officiating. The pastor preached a sermon which touched the hearts of all present, taking occasion to review the life of the noble woman who had been called to meet her God face to face in that eternal home beyond the skies. A large number of friends attended the funeral and followed the remains to their last resting place. E.B. Wright, N.T. Outwaters, M.C. Cook, C. Bartle, S.S. Shook and W.H.
