NICHOLAS KLEIN Mary Arnoldy was born Aug. 22, 1857 at Caledonia, Minnesota and passed away at her home in this city Thursday, July 14, 1921, aged 63 years, 10 months, 22 days. She came to Kansas with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Nicholas Arnoldy in 1873, settling at Tipton, Kansas. Here some years were spent afterwards going to Beloit where she was united in marriage May 27, 1878 to Mr. N. Klein. Mr. and Mrs. Klein lived at Beloit until 1901, when they with their family moved to Glasco and purchased the Oates House. For twenty years Mr. and Mrs. Klein conducted this house, known to its many patrons as the "Hotel Klein." In February of this year, on account of Mrs. Klein's failing health, the Hotel was disposed of, and the peace of private life which she had longed for in her declining years, was sought. Dread disease, however, had taken its mortal hold and all the care of a devoted family and medical skill could not stay its course. For the past two months, perfectly conscious of her unequal fight, she continued to display the courage of a true mother, and was always cheerful, never complaining, and ever ready with a word of cheer and comfort for her husband and children, all of whom were with her when the last hour came. Mrs. Klein's death marks the passing of one of the community's best loved citizens. She always took great interest in all that was for the best in the community, and by her unselfish and kindly manner endeared herself to the people of the community to a degree that few attain. The bereaved husband, children and relatives have the heartfelt sympathy of the community. Mrs. Klein is survived by her husband and eight children, Mrs. John Schmitz and Leo Klein of Beloit, Mrs. Erle E. Keller of Clyde, Mrs. George Spaulding, Arnold, Will, Max and Marie Klein of Glasco, besides four sisters and five brothers, and unnumbered friends. Requiem High Mass was celebrated by the Rev. Father McErlean of the St. Mary's Catholic Church, on Saturday morning, July 16. The local choir was assisted by Mrs. Lawrence Jermark of Delphos, Mr. Frank Grief, Mr. John Schmiedler, and Mr. Chris Koster of Tipton. Burial was in St. Mary's Cemetery.
