Description	:	Mary Edith Payne was one of at least 11 children known to be born to the farmer Almon and Polly (or Mary) Payne. Mary was born in Janesville, southern Wisconsin, apparently on the family's migration from Chautauqua County in western New York State to Adams County in central Wisconsin. The first ten years of Mary's life was spent in the vicinity of New Chester, Adams County, Wisconsin before the family moved further west around 1864 to farm in Sumner Township, near the now-extinct town of Hamilton, Fillmore County, in southeastern Minnesota. Mary was born in Janesville, southern Wisconsin, apparently on the family's migration from Chautauqua County in western New York State to Adams County in central Wisconsin. The first ten years of Mary's life was spent in the vicinity of New Chester, Adams County, Wisconsin before the family moved further west around 1864 to farm in Sumner Township, near the now-extinct town of Hamilton, Fillmore County, in southeastern Minnesota. It was in this area that Mary grew to adulthood, married Marshall L. Farnsworth on November 1, 1872, and raised five children (Nellie, Herbert, Edgar, Colonel, and Elwin). Her husband, a blacksmith, moved the family to Edgeley, LaMoure County, North Dakota in 1902. Marshall and Mary Farnsworth established a farm 3.5 miles SE of Edgeley, which they gave up in 1917 to their newly-married son Elwin, and moved into a home in Edgeley. Mary Payne Farnsworth was quite frail, suffering much from respiratory ailments the last years of her life. She died in Edgeley on June 26, 1921. Mary Payne Farnsworth was known to be very proper and a perfectionist, quite fastidious in her housekeeping, and musically inclined.
