Online condolences and obituary at www.arensbergpruett.com. Mary Ellen was born May 3, 1928, in Atchison, the daughter of Herman and Marguerite Flynn Gormley. She attended elementary schools in the Huron area, graduating from Huron High School. She and Robert Lee Christian were united in marriage on Sept. 24, 1947, at St. Louis Church in the Good Intent Community west of Atchison. Mr. Christian preceded her in death on May 20, 2008. Mary Ellen was employed with the County of Atchison as a clerk in the Atchison County Treasurer's office from 1975 until her retirement in 1990. She was a faithful and dedicated member of St. Joseph's Church, readily assisting in whatever capacity was requested of her, as well as the Altar Society of the church and the Atchison Hospital Auxiliary. Mary Ellen spent her spare time playing cards as a member of numerous card clubs, extensive travel with her husband and family. She enjoyed knitting, quilting, tending her garden and watching over and spending time at her family farm. She especially cherished moments she could spend caring for and doting over her children and grandchildren. Survivors include three daughters, Dianna and husband, Stephen Henderson, Atchison, Sharon and husband, Matthew Radetic, Lenexa, Julia and husband, James Ellerman, Atchison, two sisters, Patricia Kramer, Ft. Wayne, Ind., Geraldine Jestel, Davenport, Iowa, 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Daniel Christian, a sister, Anna Margaret Steinmetz and a brother, Raymond C. Gormley.
