Rexrode, aged resident of Strait Creek, died Wednesday morning about 5 o’clock. While her health had been rather feeble for several years, news of her deaths came as a surprise and shock to many, a serious turn in her condition during the past week not having been generally known. Mrs. Rexrode was a daughter of the late John Beverage, was born 73 years ago, and was the last surviving member, save one, of her father’s family. The one living brother is A.W. Beverage, resident of Monterey. Other surviving relatives are the aged husband, Wm. P. Rexrode, one son, Joseph Rexrode, with whom she made her home, and Mrs. J.B. Hicklin of Monterey. It will be recalled that Mr. and Mrs Rexrode celebrated their golden wedding on June first, having been married in the year 1874. On the occasion of this celebration Mrs. Rexrode was in her usual health, and expressed great delight and pleasure at having her friends and relatives with her. In the short sketch and family history given at that time, mention was made of the other two children of their union; Miss Sadie Rexrode, older daughter, having gone as a missionary to China and being buried in the foreign field; T.J. Rexrode, the older son, died a number of years ago near Monterey. Mrs. Rexrode was truly “a mother of Israel,” having been a member of he church since early girlhood. Perhaps no life has ever been spent in that section that will leave a more lasting and wholesome impress. Much sympathy is felt for the bereaved family, more especially the aged husband, whose hand-clasp of more than fifty years is thus broken and to whose feebleness and semi-helplessness in his evening of life here has come the added sorrow of reparation and loneliness. Funeral services will be conducted this afternoon, Thursday at the home, in charge of Rev. F.L. Morrison of McDowell, assisted by Rev. G.L. Kerns of Monterey. Interment will be in the family burying-place near the home.
