| Description | : | Second child of John Carmichael and Mary Ann Price who sailed from Lislea (near Kilrea), County Derry in 1847 with the first four of their nine children. The family settled in Spencerville, Grenville, Canada West, where John's younger brother James had received 100 acres for his 1836 service with the British Army during the Upper Canada Rebellion. Britain was eager to settle Canada, so the land grants encouraged soldiers to remain after being conscripted from Ireland to fight.
