SMITH Mary Jane Flower Smith was born near Salina, Aug. 8, 1853, and passed away June 13, 1942, at the home of her oldest daughter Mrs. S. E. Du Vall, 303 N. B Street, Fairfield, Ia., at the age of 88 yrs., 10 months and 13 days. She had not been very well, but able to be around the yard and able to care for herself until a sudden heart attack the morning of June 13, which lasted not more than 30 or 45 minutes. On Oct. 26, 1881, she was married to Otto F. Smith and went to live on the Smith farm south of Fairfield. Five children were born to this union, one child dying in infancy. She is survived by the following children: Mrs. S. E. Du Vall, Fairfield, Ia. Guy E. Smith, Ottumwa, Ia. Mrs. James Bryan, Los Angeles. Mrs. Frank West, Mesa, Arizona. And she leaves five grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He husband preceded her in death August 30, 1920. Funeral services for Mrs. Smith were held at the Murray funeral home Monday afternoon, June 15, at 2:15 p.m. Dr. William R. Yingling conducted the services and burial was in Evergreen ceremtery (sic. cemetery). Pallbearers were Rollie Edwards, M. C. Caviness, Ralph Rizor, Chester Samuelson, H. M. Truesdale, and E. G. Fligg.
