Tourtellot Mary Jane Starsmore was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James R. Starsmore, and was born January 1, 1844 at Woodford, Woodford County, Old England. Her marriage occurred in 1862, to Mr. Samuel Betts, in the town of her birth, and later Mr. and Mrs. Betts moved to this country. Mrs. Betts has been an invalid at her home in Litchfield, Nebr., for the last four years, and on March 24, 1912, passed to her reward at the age of 68 years, 2 months and 24 days. She leaves to mourn the loss of a loving mother six children, Mrs. Emily David of MaClede, Ill., Mrs. Anna Warren of St. Louis. Mo., Mrs. Clayton Vought of Wolcott, N. Y., and William, Albert and Arthur Betts of Litchfield, Nebr. Another child, a little daughter, passed away in infancy. Mrs. Betts united with the church of England at an early age, before coming to this country, and was a devoter mother, and earnest christian, and will be sadly missed by the loved ones and friends who are left behind. The funeral service was held at Loup City, Nebr., where for many, many years Mrs. Betts had made her home before moving to Litchfield. On March 28, at 1:30 p. m. after a short prayer at the home of Mrs. T. M. Reed, the remains accompanied by the friends and members of the I. O. O. F. and Rebecca Orders of Loup City, were borne to the Presbyterian Church, where a short service was conducted by the pastor, Rev. J. C. Tourtellot. The Rebecca Lodge gave a brief service following the regular service, after which the interment was made in the Loup City Cemetery. Times-Independent - Mar 28 1912
