Description	:	From the Chehalis Bee Nugget, August 31, 1911: At her home in Centralia, at 11 am Sunday, August 27, occurred the death of Mrs. Mary Allred, wife of Solomon R Allred, after a long illness, at the age of 74. She was the daughter of James and Thursa Myers, was born in Kirksville, Mo, March 12, 1837 and was one of fourteen children. Read More	From the Chehalis Bee Nugget, August 31, 1911: At her home in Centralia, at 11 am Sunday, August 27, occurred the death of Mrs. Mary Allred, wife of Solomon R Allred, after a long illness, at the age of 74. She was the daughter of James and Thursa Myers, was born in Kirksville, Mo, March 12, 1837 and was one of fourteen children. Mary W Myers was married to Solomon R Allred in Grayson County, Texas, December 20, 1857, and crossed the plains by way of Salt Lake in 1863. Their team and three yoke of oxen were driven off by Mormons and they were four days in locating them and three days more in catching up with the train at Raft River. They arrived at Auburn, Oregon, where they put in two years in the gold mines. In '63 they then moved on and arrived in Centralia (which was then known as Skookumchuck), taking up their homestead and entering more land which they have ever since resided on. Mrs Allred had the usual hardships of the early settlers, her husband having partially lost his health in the war of '63 much of the responsibilities were thrown on her. Her husband keeping her supplied with deer skins, many pairs of gloves and socks she made and marketed them herself at Claquato and Olympia. She has been a very energetic worker which no doubt shortened her years in life. Three or four years ago she was helping as usual to gather some fruit for the market and was so unfortunate as to have a pear fall, striking her in the eye and which caused her to lose her sight. She was very sympathetic and her doors were always open to friends and strangers alike. She was a member of the Baptist church and Womens Relief corps. Mrs Allred was the mother of eleven children, twenty five grandchildren and eighteen great granchildren. Surving her are her husband, S R Allred, and eight children, Daniel J Allred, Mrs. A W Ison of Raymond, James F Allred, Mrs J W Garrett of Chehalis, Mrs. Alice Morgan of Tenino, Thomas H Allred, Mrs G E Doty and Mrs J R Rush of Chehalis. The oldest daughter, Mrs A D Sweet, died in California a few years ago.
