Burns Received While Unconscious in Wrecked Car Near Kremlin, Fatal to Local Man Imprisoned in his overturned car beside the road sometime Wednesday morning, Mathias Garding, age 44, owner of the Garding Nash Motor Co., regained consciousness long enough to worm his way out from his burning sedan with his clothing all aflame. This was his statement at the Sacred Heart hospital, in Havre, shortly before he died at 3 o'clock Wednesday afternoon. He regained consciousness long enough to tell what he remembered of the fatal accident. The accident occurred at Kremlin hill, twelve miles from Kremlin some time early Wednesday morning. Garding was so badly burned before he escaped from the car that death ensued in a few hours. Evidently he was stunned at first and had a bad gash on his forehead. Bradbury, a farmer, who was driving to Kremlin early Wednesday morning, found Garding wandering around on the prairie naked, with his ears burned off, eyes blistered shut, and his body scorched from head to foot and even his tongue badly burned. He was about four miles from the scene of the accident when found. Bradbury brought him to the Sacred Heart hospital here about 9 o'clock Wednesday morning and physicians said he would not recover. Garding had left Havre at 3 o'clock Tuesday afternoon for his homestead north of Kremlin to bring Mrs. Garding to Havre. He was expected back sometime Tuesday evening but had made business calls in Gildford, Rudyard and Inverness before starting out to the farm. The man on duty at the garage Tuesday evening said he was somewhat alarmed when Garding did not return after 11 o'clock but thought perhaps he had decided to stay away all night. An investigating party made a trip to the scene of the accident Wednesday. They stated the car had been about half way up the hill on the north side of the bridge when the driver had apparently applied the brakes very suddenly driving over the side of the road and overturning. The car had caught fire and burned up. Mathias Garding was born at St. Martin, Minn., in 1885. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mamie Garding; five sons, Leander, Alphonse, Clarence, Erwin and Adolph; two daughters, Juletta and Alice; two sisters, Mrs. Leihouse of Heisler, Alberta and Mrs. Joe Blonigen of St. Martin, Minn.; and two brothers, Ben Garding of Heisler, Alberta, and Val Garding of Startup, Wash. The deceased has been a resident of the state since 1913, except for one year he spent in Washington. He has lived on his farm near Cottonwood up until a year ago when he took over the Nash agency in Havre. His daughter, Julette, and son, Alponse, have been living in Havre and his wife and other children on the farm.
