Mrs. Schlief (sic) was seventy years and three days old and had been a resident of Nuckolls county (sic) for many years. Funeral services were conducted from the home today. Burial was made in the Nelson cemetery (sic). The Nelson Gazette (Nelson, NE), Thursday, December 20, 1923; pg. 1 ================= Mathilda Schlief (sic) nee Golz, wife of Mr. August Schlief (sic), passed away at her home near Abdal Monday the 17th of December. She had come to this country with her husband in the year 1887 and settled at Nelson. She later moved onto the farm in the vicinity of Nelson, and subsequently came to live near Abdal, where her last years were spent. The deceased went through some hard years with her husband even in this country, but she was always content with her lot and never complained. She passed through much suffering during the last two years being cared for by her husband and assisted by her son Erich and his wife. She was a quiet and unpretending Christian and was ever ready to leave this world when her Lord called her. She had reached the age of 70 years and three days. The words spoken at her burial were from Jeremiah 31:3. "Yea I have loved thee with an everlasting love, therefore with loving kindness have I drawn thee." The services were attended by a large circle of relatives and friends. Interment was made in the Nelson cemetery. Those that mourn her loss, are: the bereaved husband, five sons and three daughters, as follows: Edward Schlief (sic), Superior; Gotthilf (sic) Schlief (sic), Abdal; Emil Schlief (sic), Lawrence; Henry Schlief (sic), Lawrence; Eric Schlief (sic), Nelson, Mrs. Martha Brenforder (sic), Mrs. Ella Brenforder (sic), Lawrence; and Mrs. Elizabeth Grummert, Superior.
