The Nelson Gazette, Thursday, September 18, 1980; pg. 12 ============================ Eric Edwin Schleif, one of eight children born to August and Mathilda Golz Schleif, was born June 25, 1893, at Nelson, Nebraska, and passed away September 15, 1980, at the Nelson Good Samaritan Center at the age of 87 years, 2 months and 21 days. Eric was baptized at Nelson, July 16, 1893, by Pastor M. Vosseler. He confirmed his christian faith April 12, 1908, at Lawrence, Nebraska, with Pastor Heinrich Stave. At the time of his death, Eric was a member of the Salem Lutheran Church, where he has been a member for 68 years. He attended Pleasant Divide Grade School west of Nelson. On June 19, 1919, Eric was united in marriage to Minnie Schiermeyer at Salem Lutheran Church. This union was blessed with four children. Eric has lived his entire life in the Nelson area where he was engaged in farming. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Francis, who died July 27, 1973, four brothers, Ed, Gus, Emil and Henry, three sisters, Martha Brennfoerder, Ella Brennfoerder and Elizabeth Grummert, one infant granddaughter, Connie Lucille Schleif who died July 7, 1963, and one infant great grandson, Eric Alan Schleif who died July 11, 1976. Those left to mourn his passing are his wife, Minnie of Nelson, his children, Wilford of VanCouver, Washington, Virgil of Nelson and Mrs. Lou (Ruby) Allgayer of Weeping Water, Nebraska; five grandchildren and five great grandchildren, a host of other relatives and many friends. Funeral services were held Thursday September 18, 1980, at 2 p.m. at the Salem Lutheran Church. Pastor David Miller officiated. The Salem Lutheran Choir sang "In The Garden" and the congregation sang "How Great Thou Art" with Lillian Christensen as accompanist. Pallbearers were Leo Schleif, Lynn Schleif, Richard Schleif, Ernest Brennfoerder, Vernon Grummert and Glen Schiermeyer. Burial was in the Nelson Cemetery.
