She died at her home in Smith Center, Kansas, at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the age of 59 years, 6 months, and 21 days. The cause of her death was anemia developed from a goiter. Funeral services were conducted at Smith Center on Tuesday and services here were held Thursday morning at 10:30 from the Vernon McCoy home on East Fifth Street, interment being made in the villisca Cemetery. Rev. E. O. Menoher officiated. Mattie E. Prevost was born in Kirkwood, Illinois, March 23, 1859. In 1873 at the age of 14 years, she moved with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Prevost, to a farm southwest of Villisca, where she lived until she was married January 1, to Charles Bloomgreen. The couple with the husband's little daughter, Bertha, whom Mrs Bloomgreen loved as her own child, lived southeast of Villisca a number of years and then went to Red Oak, where the daughter was graduated. In 1898 they moved to Walla Walla, Washington and had then there only a few weeks when Mr. Bloomgreen died on June 14. The widow returned to Vilisca and lived with her mother until she was married to Samuel Lowery on September 19, 1906. Mr. and Mrs. Lowery went to Lebanon, Kansas and remained there only a short time before going to Smith Center to make their home. Mrs. Lowery was a member of the Baptist Church and was also a member of the Eastern Star lodge here. Mrs. Lowery leaves to mourn her death, her husband; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Walter Austi of Hood River, Oregon; two brothers, William Prevost of Villisca and George Prevost living in Ferndale, Washington; four sisters, Mrs. Josie Jones of Hood River, Oregon; Mrs. A. W. McCoy, living southeast of town; MRs. H. E. Wales of Smith Center, Kansas; and MRs. D. H. Meyerhoff of Corning, Iowa. Mrs. Lowery's niece and nephews of this vicinity are MRs. Wm. Steward, Vernon and Guy McCoy, all living in Villisca and Dennis McCoy in the United States service in France. Mrs. Lowery made a host of friends in whatever community she lived and especially in this vicinity do her friends extend to the bereaved deepest sympathy in their loss of such a kind and loving relative. For some reason unknown here, Mr. Lowery did not accompany the body of his wife to this city. Relatives here received a telegram which stated; Under conditions body shipped alone.
