Kaska was born Feb. 4, 1921 in Fairfield, the son of Vincent and Harriett S. Kurtz Kaska (sic. Harriet S. Kurtz Kaska). He grew up east of Fairfield, graduated from Fairfield High School and lived in California after WWII until 1961. He moved to Cedar Rapids where he was an accountant with Sentry Engineering until 1971. He lived for eight years in Story City, where he owned and operated a bowling alley and also worked at Holiday Inn in Ames as night auditor. He was a janitor at Lincoln School for the past eight years. He married Margaret Ann Voorhies in California. Surviving are two daughters, Barbara Miller of Vallejo, Calif., Carolyn Millard of rural Birmingham; two sons, John and Richard, both of Fairfield; three grandchildren; three brothers, Eugene Kaska of Fairfield, Raymond of Long Beach, Calif., and Earl of Cedar Rapids. His parents, two sisters and a brother preceded him in death. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and VFW, and was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in Belgium during WWII.
