Read More	"The Fairfield Daily Ledger" Saturday, January 17, 1953 Page 8, Column 2 MAURICE JENCKS, WELL KNOWN HERE, DIES IN TOPEKA Maurice JENCKS, widely known in Fairfield, died at his home in Topeka, Kan., this morning. He was a brother-in-law of Mrs. Walter HUGHES and Miss Hazel MANATREY. He had been in declining health for several years but was able to carry on his business affairs until recent weeks. He had owned most of the moving picture theatres in Topeka at one time and sold them to a syndicate in 1929 intending to retire from active business. He found, however, that the inactive life was not for him and in the early 1930s he became managing director of the Kansas state fair which position he held until his death. He built up the fair which has long been regarded as one of the best state fairs in the country. It was unique in that he built a fair that was able to operate without ever having charged admission at the gate. He was born at Yankton, S. Dak. He was married to Jessie MANATREY in 1912. She with a daughter, Mrs. J. H. ABRAHAMS of Topeka, survives him. A younger daughter, Cordelia, preceded him in death. Funeral services are incomplete, but services will be held in Topeka and the body will be returned to Fairfield for burial.
