Mr. BUERKENS was born Nov. 12, 1915, in Monroe County near Blakesburn, the son of Charles Edward and Amelia GAASS BUERKENS. The Buerkens family moved to a farm 3 1/2 miles southeast of Libertyville in 1919. Mr. Buerkens graduated from Libertyville High School in 1933. He entered the U. S. Navy Oct. 18, 1939, and was discharged Oct. 23, 1945. He served in World War II. He was a member of VFW Post 2271 in Fairfield. In 1946, he farmed in Liberty Township until he retired. He moved to Libertyville housing in 1984. Mr. BUERKENS was single. Survivors include one sister, Elizabeth "Sue" BONNETT of Fairfield; one brother, Bobbie of Napa, Calif.; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; eight brothers, Julius, Earl, Archie, Gene, John, Barney, Charles and Lee; two sisters, Helen KIGER and Artie LANE.
