Melva Marie Wallace, the oldest of four children of Orville Arthur and Cora Stella (Kelso) Hardy, was born on December 3, 1909 at Tabor, Iowa. Melva attended school in Glenwood and Malvern, Iowa. Melva and Charles Marion Shere were united in marriage on December 11, 1926 in Glenwood, Iowa. They made their home in Malvern and were blessed with four children, Charles Truman, Verlin Arthur, Richard LeRoy, and Mona Elaine. Melva and Charles had been married nine years at the time of his death on February 4, 1936. Melva and Linville Wallace were married on April 30, 1938 in Glenwood, and lived in Malvern. They had been married 43 years when Linville passed away on July 14, 1981. Melva was a busy mother and homemaker. She always had a big garden and enjoyed canning the produce. She also loved to make and sew quilts and do embroidery work, all by hand. She was a member of the Malvern Baptist Church. In March of 2001, she moved to the Manor of Malvern. Melva passed away at the Manor on August 1, 2009, at the age of 99 years, 7 months, and 28 days. Melva was preceded in death by her parents; Orville and Cora Hardy; husbands, Charles Shere and Linville Wallace; sons, Charles Shere and wife Bernadine and Verlin Shere; grandson, Rodney Shere; great grandsons, Justin Shere and Steven Huey; brothers, Corwin Hardy and wife Lela, Truman Hardy, and Verlin Hardy and wife Elizabeth "Sis". Melva is survived by her son, Richard Shere and wife Joanna of Malvern; daughter Mona McDaniel and husband John of Council Bluffs, Iowa; daughter-in-law, Francine Shere of Omaha, Nebraska; sister-in-law, Mildred Hardy of Malvern; 11 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren; 42 great great grandchildren; nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends.
