Melvin Edward Morrison, son of George Edward Morrison and Ethel Phelps Morrison, was born November 7, 1911, near Deep River, Iowa, and died Thursday, April 16, 1987, in Grinnell General Hospital, Grinnell, Iowa. Mr. Morrison received his education in a rural school near Deep River. He farmed most of his life retiring ten years ago. He was united in marriage to Opal Provin on January 26, 1935, in Montezuma, Iowa. They have lived near Brooklyn for the past twenty-two years. Mr. Morrison was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Brooklyn and was a former member of the IOOF Lodge. Surviving are his wife, Opal; one daughter, Patricia (Robert) Hartley of Nashua, Iowa; one son, Rick (Deb) Morrison of Brooklyn; one brother, Orlan Morrison of Center Point, Iowa; three sisters, Opal (Don) Candler of Toledo, Iowa, Doris (Cleo) Madeson of Marion, and Norma (Lyle) Thorpe of Des Moines; and three grandchildren, Scott Hartley, Timothy and Bryan Morrison of Brooklyn.
