"Babe" July 24, 1919 ~ April 23, 2010 Melvin L. "Babe" Jones, 90, of N. Fayette St., Fayette, passed away early Friday morning, April 23, 2010, at his home. He was born July 24, 1919, in Dearborn, MI, to the late William and Cora (Park) Jones. He married Pauline Bacon at the Wauseon Methodist Church on March 2, 1940, and they shared 70 years of marriage. Babe grew up in Dearborn, Michigan, where he graduated from Henry Ford Trade School, and began his career as a Tool & Die Maker. He came to Fayette in the late 1930's, assuming a role in the construction of the Fayette Manufacturing Plant. It was in Fayette where he met Pauline, the love of his life, and made countless friendships and bonds too numerous to name. Babe proudly served his country in World War II, serving two years in the United States Navy in the South Pacific. Babe later founded Quality Tube Service in 1970, and served as the President of the company until his passing. In 2008, Babe and Pauline were crowned King and Queen of the Fulton County Fair. Babe, a true outdoorsman and avid sports fan, was a member of numerous organizations including Pheasants Forever, Ducks Unlimited, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, Wild Turkey Foundation, White Tail Foundation, the National Firearms Association, and the Fayette Athletic Boosters. He collected art prints, duck decoys, and he enjoyed attending antique car shows, traveling, hunting and fishing. Surviving Babe besides his wife, are one daughter, of Fayette; a son, of Big Rapids, MI; a brother, of Leesburg, FL; two grand children, all of Fayette; five great-grandchildren; and two step-great grandchildren. Babe was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Clifford, Merle, Harold, Donald, and Raymond; two sisters, Twila Jones in infancy and Dorothy Brockmiller. A funeral service for Babe Jones will be held on Monday, April 26, 2010, at 2:00 p.m. at the Fayette United Methodist Church with Pastor Kathy Currier officiating. Interment will follow in the Pleasant View Union Cemetery in Fayette. The family will receive friends for visitation at the Eagle Funeral Home - Barrett Chapel in Fayette, on Sunday, from 1-8 p.m., and on Monday, from 1:00 p.m. until time of service at the church.
