He attended Lincoln Elementary School and Pierre Junior High School until he quit after the eighth grade to help his mother. On April 10, 1954, he married Phyllis Jean Mattheis at Trinity Episcopal Church. He served in the US Army from 1954 to 1956 as a Senior Helicopter Repairman and was stationed in Seoul, Korea. Melvin Leslie Fratzke was born April 3, 1929 in DeGrey, SD to Charles Henry and Myrtle Mae (Jones) Fratzke. He attended Lincoln Elementary School and Pierre Junior High School until he quit after the eighth grade to help his mother. On April 10, 1954, he married Phyllis Jean Mattheis at Trinity Episcopal Church. He served in the US Army from 1954 to 1956 as a Senior Helicopter Repairman and was stationed in Seoul, Korea. Melvin farmed and ranched northeast of Pierre with his father-in-law, Eltor Mattheis, until 1975 when he moved his family into town. He worked for Pierre National Bank and the Department of Transportation. When he retired, he continued ranching with his son until the time of his death. Melvin was a member of the American Legion. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and drinking coffee with his many friends. Melvin enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He spent much of his time caring for his horses, cows, and dogs, Susie and Cocoa. He is survived by his loving wife of almost 58 years, Phyllis; their children, daughters Kathi (Ricky) Anderson of Fort Pierre and Lynda Fratzke of Pierre; sons Randy of Pierre and Robert (Marlys) of Fort Pierre; grandchildren Brandy (Michael) Boardman; Kari, Samantha and Sondra Anderson of Fort Pierre; Jacob and Tori Fratzke of Fort Pierre; 8 great grandchildren; brother, Robert (Ruth) Fratzke of Miller; numerous nieces and nephews, and special friends LeRoy J., LeRoy Z., and Kathy Braun of Onida, Roger and Samantha Witte of Pierre, and all his coffee buddies. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, William "Bill", Elmer, Warren "Ken", Vern; and sisters, Blanche, Garnet, Mildred, and Ruth. Feigum Funeral home website- 2012
